Akiba incident, anime, doujin and Dragon Quest

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

dqisdangerous.jpgChugoku Shimbun says that the “Dagger knife”, a knife that has an edge on both sides, that was used by the killer in the Akihabara stabbing incident is a popular item called “Dagger knife” that is present as an item in popular video games such as Dragon Quest.

Yomiuri Online agrees and reports that the “Dagger knife” is a weapon used in popular video games and the “Dagger knife” is very popular among young teenagers. The police is now discussing countermeasures to possibly tighten the regulation on the possession of knives with long blades. (The current regulation only requires registration if the blade is longer than 15 cm)

Zakzak reports that doujinshi was found in the Akiba killer’s room, and according to his colleagues, he likes to sing “lolicon anime songs” and proclaimed that he only likes 2D girls. The Akiba killer had also previously said that he likes Akihabara and had showed his colleagues around the area to places such as maid cafes.

Zakzak continues reporting on the killer’s interests with games and CDs that the killer had given to a friend, including doujin games such as Eternal Fighter Zero and Chantelise, and the killer reportedly loves a certain “Moe anime girl danmaku shooter” for the PC.

Yahoo reports that Masuda Hiroya, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, has responded that they will try to see if they can regulate dangerous information on the internet in response to the fact that the Akiba killer had posted on a cellphone bbs (not 2ch) about his plans to kill people in Akiba hours before the incident but the authorities did not manage to detect it.

Also, Asahi reports that the police have announced that all the bystanders that tried to save the people that got stabbed should go for a blood test, because one of the males that died had an unnamed disease that can possibly spread by direct contact with his blood.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu new animation

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Pics from Newtype
The reason why they cancelled 2nd season and started “Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu new animation” instead was because they felt that they couldn’t just do a 2nd season and that they wanted to do a completely new “Haruhi” again. They’re still deciding on the concept for the new anime and how it’ll be like and having meetings for how the story will go.

It’s still probably going to be about disappearance, with those character designs that are shown.

Art stolen from Kara no kyoukai art exhibition

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

tsukichuu.jpgThe art exhibition for chapter 4 of the Kara no kyoukai movie started at the ufotable cafe today, but the ufotable blog writes that in the previous 5 Kara no kyoukai art exhibitions that they’ve held at the cafe, they’ve experienced a total of 3 cases of art being stolen from the displays.

They write that they could have a person guarding the showcases or install security cameras, but the cafe is something of a community place and they wish to be able to trust the Kara no kyoukai fans instead of suspecting them.

However, they’ll have trouble holding art exhibitions if these cases of theft continue, and hope that such cases will stop.

dounarundaro.jpgMuhyojo reports that three new serializations will be starting in Shounen Sunday on issues 29, 30, and 31. All three of them are manga that were successful as one shot manga in Sunday, two of the one shots were published early 2007 and another one early this year.

gedo.jpgJapanese blog ManiaxZ reports that on the 1st of June, a man was caught attacking a woman on the streets of Akihabara because he lost to her in a video game in the arcades. These violent fighting games sure are making people violent.

All that in the latest post where he talks about having been hospitalized for a lung abscess and is needing a month to recover.

Possibility of Negima movie or 3rd TV series

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

murida.jpgReports from the Negi no ochakai event today say that Akamatsu has mentioned that there is a possibility of a Negima movie if the preorders for the Negima Ala Alba anime that comes with the LE version of Negima vol. 23 exceeds 50,000, and if it exceeds 100,000 they will consider a 3rd TV series.

To put this in perspective, the only anime DVD that sold more than 100,000 copies in 2007 was Gedo Senki by Ghibli. And 50,000 DVDs sold would be enough to make it into the top 10 best selling anime DVD rankings for 2007.

The number of preorders for the LE version of Negima vol. 22 was 91,500 copies, but that was 840 yen (US$8) while the LE version of vol. 23 is 3,570 yen (US$34) because of the anime DVD.

The counter on the official website for Negima Ala Alba shows the current amount of preorders, which is currently 10,000. And it apparently counts all the preorders from vol. 23, vol. 24, and vol. 25.
