Kyoto, haru. doujinshi distribution info

backgrounds

Doujin circle RubiconHearts has announced that outside of Comic Market, they currently do not have any plans to sell the “Kyoto, haru.” doujinshi on consignment through the existing doujinshi shops. But instead, they will be running a small shop to sell the doujinshi. The shop will be somewhere in Tokyo and will open about 2 to 3 times per month on the weekends.

The reason for this method of distribution that is different from the norm is that they feel that the distribution of doujinshi should also be independent, unlike normal book publications.

They wish to hand the book over to the readers directly by themselves instead of letting other people do it, as one of the fun parts of doujinshi events is that they can get to meet the readers directly. When selling through doujin shops on consignment, this fun is completely gone and the relationship with the readers is usually dull and lifeless.

Also the image above is where they’re doing the color proof for the book. Great backgrounds.

Seems like Irisu Syndrome sequel might be coming at Comiket. The author tetsu got accepted for winter Comic Market and he’s looking for somebody to do block and field graphics for the sequel. He originally commented that he’ll try to release it during summer (he made that comment in September).

Takeuchi Takashi + Kobayashi Jin doujinshi

arc

Type-moon’s Takeuchi Takashi will be pairing up with mangaka Kobayashi Jin (School Rumble, Natsu no arashi) to release a 36 page full colour A3 sized doujinshi under the doujin circle Rubicon Hearts for the coming Winter Comiket.

The title of the doujinshi will be called “Kyoto, haru.”, which basically means Spring in Kyoto. They have apparently also got a number of different artists to draw background scenary in the book, and the center page spread will be an A2 sized illustration.

Takeuchi’s comment:

I’ve always been thinking that I want to do original doujinshi once more again. But it has always been a kind of a “vague” feeling that always ended up “vaguely” unable to come into fruition.

“Lets go to Kyoto now! We will see the sakura and make the book!”

What broke my “vague” feeling was Kobayashi Jin’s great enthusiasm.

I thought that he would make some absurd suggestions, but at the same time I started getting more and more enthusiastic about the entire thing too. This was the same kind of feeling I constantly had 10 years ago. This feeling is probably the start where all my creative work came from.

I would be happy if this book can become a special part of somebody’s life out there.

Kobayashi’s comment:

“I want to do doujin!” I’ve always had that thought in my mind. To me, creative work outside of commercial business has been highly idealized in my mind.

To be in a hall with very little people, where people might not even be aware of your existence but parts of your book may remain in somebody’s consciousness. An extremely simple way of sending out information. Though it might not go the same way as I imagine it.

This time I’ll be with a great veteran Takeuchi-san. Even though I was nervous about this, I drew everything with some guidance from Takeuchi-san. Takeuchi-san is still as hot-blooded as always. I can’t hesitate! It’ll be a waste of myself!

07th Expansion’s BT passed away from illness

rika

Ryukishi07 has announced on his diary that BT who has been working with 07th Expansion since the start of the Higurashi series has passed away to an unnamed illness on the 10th of July. He has been in charge of the 07th Expansion website as well as various scripting and debugging.

Ryukishi07 writes that BT was not only his best friend but also was his first reader, Higurashi and Umineko were almost like they were written just to surprise BT.

BT was also the person who suggested putting up Higurashi ep 1 for free download on the website, which caught the attention of a lot of people, and it was one of the main factors leading to Higurashi’s popularity now.

Takato Rui doesn’t like Comic Gear mag concept

doujin

Comic Gear is a new magazine being directed by Hiroyuki (author of Doujin Work) which runs on the new concept where all the mangaka on the magazine would get together and work in the same studio and work together on each other’s manga.

The benefits of this is that each mangaka can share their skills and knowledge with the others, and have their work looked through by all that are present and get their opinion.

And to this new magazine concept, Takato Rui (author of Cynthia the mission and MikarunX) has expressed his disapproval on his blog:

I’m sorry. But I want to directly name Comic Gear and state that I do not agree with what they’re doing. The concept itself makes me feel sick. I wonder how the person who started the project even thought of something like this in the first place. I wonder if he wants to become the leader of some friendly club. I wonder if all the young mangaka following his lead are mentally sane.

This is probably something that is already commonly said, but manga is not doujinshi. Being distressed alone, hiding from people and building up your own skills, and finally packing everything you’ve got and releasing it, that’s what you’d call your own world isn’t it.

“If we are to talk about what martial arts fighters are truly thinking, it’ll be that they’re all thinking that they’re number 1″. This is what Itagaki Keisuke wrote using the character Kuga Jyuumei.

Even if you’re still inexperienced, at least believe that you’re number 1. Show that you’re ready, be intoxicated by the loneliness, and build your own castle. By having everybody get together and draw manga that is like making a house out of candy, you won’t reincarnate into a beautiful 2D girl in your next life even if you temporarily become moderately rich for now.

They had stated that one of the merits of the magazine’s concept is that if one of them draws something boring he could be told immediately on the spot by all other mangaka. So I’m joining in from outside by saying this about their concept. I’ve never seen anything this bad in a long time.

Also it’s not very well known but Takato Rui uploads really long tracks of himself singing stuff like sentai and JAM project songs on nico.

Comic Market 76 day three

jigoku

Like before, from 2ch so don’t believe everything etc etc etc.

Summary of events at day 3 of Comiket

  • Fake wallet containing only a 5 yen chocolate gets stolen
  • Brake problem arises on first train on Rinkai line
  • Somebody broke his leg while being pushed around on the over packed trains (no direct eye witness account)
  • Some kid thinks he’s a customer and shouts for the guy in charge to talk to him
  • Kid crashes into table causing DVDs and books to get ruined and put the goods up at half price, but their regulars still bought their goods despite the condition and they managed to sell everything
  • Somebody’s camera lens got stolen off his camera in the crowd
  • Wallet with 220,000 yen gets found
  • Comiket staff heard commenting that Touhou fans are really unruly
  • Via: こちらコミックマーケット総合 現地実況スレその168~174

Apparently day 3 didn’t have many problems because there were less kids (most were touhou fans because of nico). Post-Comiket 2ch thread is now largely about wanting to keep children out of Comiket. This is also the first time there is significant commotion about children at Comiket.

Also the customer thing, there were a number of discussions a while back about how the new people coming to comiket think they’re the customers and believe they should be treated like customers, but the idea behind comiket is that everybody there are participants and the “customer” does not exist.

Indy galge stopped from distribution on Xbox Live

    hosakatasukete

The Japanese indies game Sore demo, watashi wa aishiteiru which was released on Xbox Live has been stopped from distribution.

The author writes on his blog saying that he had originally been contacted by Microsoft Europe that one of the event scenes had content that was deemed inappropriate. The main points highlighted by Microsoft about the scene in question (pictured above) were that:

  • The girl’s hand was being restrained
  • She was being pushed down
  • Her underwear were being exposed
  • And the above three points were elements that are visual cues that would remind players of sexual violence, and was deemed to be one of the prohibited content in their indies games.

The author asked if it was possible to keep it in distribution only for the Japan region while they are fixing the scene in question, but were told that in the event that they do not comply and stop distribution, Microsoft will delete it and suspend their account.

Censorship on consoles isn’t new, but the problem faced here is apparently that they have to comply to the content regulations in every region, so if something is okay in the US and Japan but not in Europe, they’ll have to do something to fix it. Whereas the practice with normal console releases is that they would normally only censor the game for the regions that have a problem with it.
